Fire Extinguisher Servicing Schedule

Who checks your fire extinguishers, what they check, and how often, under BS 5306-3.

  1. Day one On installation

    Commissioning

    New fire extinguishers are checked, made ready and tagged on site before they go into use.

    Competent technician

  2. At least Monthly

    Visual inspection

    Each extinguisher is in its place, the seal is intact, the gauge is in the green and there is no visible damage.

    Responsible person

  3. Every 12 months

    Basic service

    A full service of every extinguisher, with the service label and record updated.

    Competent technician

  4. Every 5 years

    Extended service

    Discharge test and refill for water, foam, wet chemical and powder fire extinguishers.

    Competent technician

  5. Every 10 years

    Extended service or overhaul

    For CO2 (carbon dioxide) and clean agent fire extinguishers.
